begin again

Author and philosopher, Sam Harris, was on one of my favorite podcasts recently. Can’t remember all the things covered, but he said something small that stuck with me.

“We're always free to just begin again.”

What a powerful assertion of freedom, hidden in a throw-away line.

Things will go wrong. Our best intentions will mutate into a WTF moment. We won’t like the direction something is headed. We will fail.

But so what, we can start over. Maybe with nothing, and nobody by our side. Armed only with a lesson learned.

Internalizing this is a superpower.

A new year approaches. You’re free to start over; to just begin again.
